MY JOURNEY WITH RESILIENCE

Today, as I sit down to pen this journal entry, I’m reflecting on what resilience means to me. It’s not just a buzzword or a fleeting motivational quote, it’s the quiet strength that has carried me through life’s unpredictable waves.
My journey with resilience hasn’t been a straight path; it’s been a winding road marked by stumbles, triumphs, and moments of profound growth.

I remember the first time I truly understood resilience. It was a few years ago when I faced a significant setback, relapsing three times in a space of 4 years. The initial shock felt like a punch to the gut. I questioned my worth, my skills, and my future. But in that low moment, I found a spark of determination.

I started small while I was institutionalized: Putting aside my negative emotions, in detail i began to identify my triggers, knowing when to avoid them, also how to interrupt the triggers, and finally talking about them. Each step, no matter how tiny, was a brick in the foundation of my comeback. Within months, I could feel a sense of purpose and meaning to life, but it also taught me the value of persistence.

Resilience, I’ve learned, isn’t about avoiding pain or failure, it’s about moving through it. Another moment that tested me was when my father kicked me out.
Misunderstandings piled up, and despite my efforts, the bond broke. It hurt deeply, but I chose to lean into the discomfort.

I journaled about my feelings, sought guidance, and slowly rebuilt my sense of self. That experience taught me that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about growing forward, carrying the lessons with you.

Lately, I’ve been navigating new challenges—balancing work, personal goals, and the weight of a world that feels heavier with each news cycle. Some days, I’m tempted to retreat, to let exhaustion win. But I’ve learned to lean on small rituals: morning walks to clear my mind, deep conversations with loved ones, and moments of gratitude for what’s still within my control. These acts aren’t grand, but they’re my anchors.

What strikes me most about resilience is its quiet power. It’s not loud or flashy, it’s the decision to get out of bed after a sleepless night, to try again after a rejection, to forgive yourself for not being perfect. My journey with resilience is ongoing, a tapestry woven with threads of courage, vulnerability, and hope. I don’t always feel strong, but I’m learning that strength isn’t the absence of weakness, it’s the choice to keep going anyway.

As I wrap this up, I’m reminded that resilience is personal but also universal. We all face storms, and we all can weather them. Here’s to embracing the journey, one resilient step at a time.
